Luminary

A person distinguished for their influence or achievements in a field. The word can also mean a source of light.

Context

When it describes a person, luminary often suggests that their work inspires or guides others. Its literal sense can refer to a bright object such as the sun.

My YouGov membership hub gave me the label “Luminary” under Insights.

Examples

  • “After decades of teaching and making films, she became a luminary in animation.”
