Worldbuilding

Creating a fictional setting and the details that make it feel like a place of its own, such as its geography, history, culture, or rules.

Context

Worldbuilding can happen at the scale of a single building or an entire civilization. Even a small choice about how a place works can shape what characters do there, from which routes they can take to whom they expect to meet.

Examples

  • In Fiction2Reality, worldbuilding can mean deciding how rooms and routes connect so an environment feels like somewhere people could actually explore.
  • A town that floods every spring might build elevated walkways and hold its markets on higher ground, giving the story’s characters a setting shaped by its geography.
